Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for PRU’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. They will begin their term by contributing to the Board’s strategic planning processes as the organization undergoes a period of transition and stabilization after four years of rapid growth, while also working to develop a deep knowledge of the needs of the LGBTQ+ community in Utah, PRU’s current programs, approach, operations, and needs.

This position is part-time (15-20 hours per week expected), salaried position with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role with further expansion of the organization and its resources. The annual salary for this role ranges from $15,000 to $22,000, paid in equal bi-monthly installments. This is a hybrid position; while the day to day work is largely virtual, frequent in-person attendance in support of fundraising, community outreach, partner collaboration, and volunteer/donor appreciation is expected. The ED is expected to join the Board of Directors for their monthly virtual meetings and quarterly in-person meetings. Some travel outside of the Salt Lake metro area is required during flag staking campaigns, which is covered by the organization. Technology will be provided as needed. We expect the start date for this position to be in January 2023. 

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals

  • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to actively engage and energize PRU’s volunteers, board members, event committees, grantees, partnering organizations, and funders

  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; 

  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain PRU’s Volunteer Coordinator; work alongside to improve the efficiency and scalability of PRU’s flag campaigns 

  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities, in particular major donors and sponsors, to support existing program operations and continued expansion of PRU’s mission and reach 

  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web and social media presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand

  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities to promote visibility and inclusive across Utah

Planning & Strategy

  • Work alongside the Board to set a strong strategic direction for both the short and long term; ultimately responsible for operationalization of strategic plan

  • Begin to build partnerships in new areas of Utah and communities underrepresented by PRU’s current flag campaigns and grants, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders 

  • Be an external presence that publishes and communicates program results, such as grant reports

  • You have a track record of effectively leading a scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth

  • You demonstrate an unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

  • You have excellent organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance individuals and volunteers, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

  • You have past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships

  • You bring strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures

  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills; are a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

  • You tend to be action-oriented, with an entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to planning

  • You have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

  • Above all you model passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, being mission-driven, and being self-directed
