Extra Space Storage
Extra Space Storage is the second largest operator of self-storage facilities in the U.S. Since we were founded in 1977, we have taken the storage industry by storm. We are a Real Estate Investment Trust, a member of the S&P 500, and the largest publicly traded company in Utah.
The cornerstone of Extra Space Storage is successful partnerships with our stakeholders, partners, investors, and customers. Our goals are driven by a passionate, dedicated workforce that thrives on innovation.
At Extra Space Storage we strive to help people to a better tomorrow.
The vision includes our employees, customers, investors, and communities. We know that realizing this vision is best achieved through a diverse, equitable, and inclusionary culture that respects and celebrates the unique attributes and characteristics of each employee.
Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is, simply put, the right thing to do. It allows us to attract and retain top talent, improve employee engagement, increase innovation and customer insight, and enhance the quality of our decision making. This ultimately leads to increased shareholder value and a strong reputation as an employer of choice.
Diversity
We define diversity broadly, going beyond one-dimensional categories to recognize that all people are unique, due to the combination of their individual characteristics, attributes, realities, backgrounds, experiences, skills, and perspectives. Diversity is multi-faceted and includes race, gender, physical ability, ethnicity, national origin, nationality, religion, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identification, age -- and more. We recognize that even when people may appear the same, they are different.
Equity
Equity identifies and eliminates inequities and barriers to ensure all individuals receive fair treatment and support. When equity is practiced, it allows us to attract top talent, increase employee retention, enhance teamwork, and broaden perspectives, which enriches the employee experience for all. Equity favorably affects every function of the company and serves the entire organization; it is the embodiment of Extra Space’s core values.
Inclusion
At Extra Space, creating an inclusive environment is a priority. To fully realize our company's vision, we must foster a workplace where people are treated fairly - where they are supported, listened to, and can contribute authentically. With objective and transparent business practices, clear communication, and an unyielding commitment to living our values of Integrity, Excellence, Passion, Teamwork, and Innovation, we can help our employees experience professional and personal growth, deliver outstanding customer service, and maximize shareholder returns.
Commitment
Helping people to a better tomorrow means that each member of the Extra Space team, from our CEO to our newest hire, commits to living our values and honors the diverse attributes of our team. Together, we will create an equitable and inclusive environment, ensuring that team members are heard, appreciated, and empowered to fully participate in the mission of Extra Space.
Extra Space has Employee Resource Groups that are open to all employees whether they identify as members of the group in title or as allies—all contributions are welcome! Each ERG is led by an executive sponsor and a committee of three volunteer leaders. These groups play an important role in building a strong sense of community and belonging.
- BIPOC ERG- serves as a resource and voice for Extra Space employees with origin from diverse groups and their allies. Through mentorship, awareness, education, and empowerment, we will uplift our BIPOC team members, help reduce over and implicit bias and elevate the organization in its entirety.
- Veteran ERG- we work to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for all our Veteran and Military team members and allies of the military community, including friends and family. We strive to be a resource to these team members to identify and address emerging issues and gather feedback to create an empowered future.
- Women ERG- serves as a voice for Extra Space women and their supporters by creating community awareness, promoting personal and professional development, and enhancing employee engagement. We champion a positive and inclusive environment that ultimately empowers our female employees.
- LGBTQIA+ ERG- has a mission to create a safe place where employees can come together and feel a part of a community that cares for and promotes LGBTQIA+ diversity. This employee resource group provides representation for voices that need to be heard to get us to a better tomorrow. Through open forums, education, and training, we will help influence and build a more inclusive culture for all employees at Extra Space.
We are focused and committed to maintaining a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment. We strive to give everyone access to the same opportunities. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national, social or ethnic origin, gender identity and/ or expression, age, marital status, veteran status, citizenship status, or disability status.
